Multifamily High Efficiency New Construction & Water Space Heating

Builders and Developers Energy Efficiency Program (Market Transformation Program)

Incentives are offered to multifamily project developers who agree to facilitate the installation of qualified above energy code measures and non-electric water heating in both market rate and affordable rate new multifamily projects within CenterPoint Energy's electric distribution service territory.

How to Apply

Step One: Sponsor Application

Project participation begins with a one-time Sponsor Application.

Step Two: Project Application

Registered Sponsors can complete the one-page Project Application. This allows us to engage with you as early in the design stage as possible.

A downloadable Project Application form is also available.

Additional Program Information

An energy savings model is required for participation in the above-code element (HENC). The online project application has a list of qualified energy raters who have previously participated in the program.

Funding for qualified projects is committed in the year construction is completed; although, preliminary incentive estimates are provided to determine potential gross incentives based on measures deployed. Plus, builders and developers who participate in both HENC and WSH elements may qualify for an additional "dual-element participation bonus" incentive.

High Efficiency New Construction

Program is available to Builders and Developers of multifamily projects who either work with qualified Raters throughout the design and construction process, can achieve above code performance on construction projects, and /or achieve above-code certification from a nationally-recognized program. Recognized programs include:

  • Enterprise Green Communities Criteria
  • USGBC LEED
  • ENERGY STAR® Certified Homes
  • ENERGY STAR® Multifamily High Rise (New Construction)
  • National Green Building Standard
  • Others as approved by CenterPoint Energy

Water & Space Heating

Program is available to Builders and Developers of multifamily projects who deploy high efficient water and space heating technologies. All heating equipment must meet or exceed applicable federal efficiency standards or local building codes, as applicable. For projects involving the installation of individual water heaters and central service water heaters, the program provides different incentive levels for market-rate (MR residential) and affordable (hard-to-reach or HTR).
